What is Medical Payments Coverage?

Medical payments coverage, also known as MedPay, is an add-on to auto insurance that covers medical expenses related to an automobile accident. It protects you regardless of who is at fault.

MedPay covers you, any passenger in your vehicle, and any pedestrians you may injure. It also covers you if you are a passenger in another vehicle or are a pedestrian, bike rider or public transportation rider.

What is an example of MedPay coverage?

Suppose you are driving to a job site and get run off the road. The vehicle may be OK but you hit your head on the driver’s side window and have a lump plus symptoms of a concussion. Let’s say that you opted for $2000 MedPay coverage. The X-ray and other diagnostic tests total $1500. Since each of the expenses are less than the $2000 per person limit, MedPay would cover all medical expenses in this scenario.

What else do I need to know about MedPay?
